What You May Not Know About the Old House

We asked a handful of brothers to tell us something today’s brothers probably don’t know about our former digs. Here is what they said:

When you look at the old pictures of the “Frat House” from 1950, they just cannot do it justice. It was a grand old home, with a huge, wide, wood staircase, high ceilings and entry hall. Just across the street, there was a place that made huge soft donuts and plenty of good hot coffee, which was especially great when we were late night studying. Walking over there helped get us awake! – Bob O. Snelling ’54

A little known fact I am sure is – How many screws held together the not so portable bar that was made by the our pledge class?
The answer was written inside the bar so no one had to remember and I am sure the bar is long gone now, but the answer was around 253 or some large number.  It was constructed of two by four and plywood with laminate top.  Bob Burkhart painted the star and crescent emblem that was mounted on the front for us.  It was my favorite pledge class question to ask. – Richard Armstrong ’81

The current actives may not know how great Mary Ellen was. She was like a mother to all of us while we were away from home. – Mark Stemphoski ’01

For many, the safe in the party room lead to another “secret” room where ritual events were performed. – Bryan M. Roth ’97
