Six years after graduation, Brendan Stenson ’05 still cherishes the bonds he made during his undergraduate Kappa Sigma days, saying the bond still exists after all of these years and the interactions remain as genuine as they were years ago.
Brendan joined Kappa Sig his first semester of college, after visiting the house during his senior year of high school and getting to know Jim O’Mara ’02, along with other brothers, during the summer session before his freshman year. He pledged with Greg Beebe and Carl Myers, also from the class of 2005, and created an unbreakable bond with them that laid the foundation for years to come.

His Kappa Sig years were filled with jokes and many good times, saying, “pretty much all we did was laugh and play jokes on each other; it was open season.” Aside from playing around, Brendan held many positions in the house including GMC, Grand Treasurer and Social Chair. He advises future generations to get involved like he did because the more you put into Kappa Sigma, the more you will get out of it – and his experiences set him up for success in the ‘real world.’
Among all of the great times he had at Penn State, the one that stands out the most to Brendan was the Luau during April of his freshman year. Aside from being a perfect day for a great party, it was the last time he got to hang out with the graduating seniors, the men who had been so pivotal in bringing him to Kappa Sig in the first place.
Since graduating in 2005, Brendan has visited Penn State many times, but not as much recently. He remains in touch with many of his brothers still, playing on an ice hockey team with four other Kappa Sigs, as well as spending time with alumni who also live in the Philly area. He participated in one of his brothers’ weddings and is in another one coming up soon. He also stays connected with the brothers that aren’t as close geographically through Facebook.
Brendan encourages alumni to get involved in their adult years, because he says it’s one of the reasons you join Kappa Sig in the first place. “It’s a foundation and connection you’ll always have with Penn State, so take advantage of it.” He currently lives in Ardmore, PA and has been working at an insurance agency outside of Philadelphia since graduation.
