Colony Initiated By Sophomores and Juniors Is Giving Back To the Community through Philanthropic Efforts and Is Recruiting Members Quickly

As many of the Alpha-Delta alumni know, there is a new Alpha Delta colony at Penn State. I am the colony Grand Master. Last spring, a new colony began with the hopes of earning back the Alpha Delta charter. The colony was set in motion by several individuals who had interest in joining a fraternity but believed that they had missed the opportunity to do so being second semester sophomores or juniors. These individuals are friends of mine. We threw around the idea of restarting Kappa Sigma because it had been shut down while I was attempting to pledge two years ago.

Over the course of three months, we emailed and called national headquarters in Virginia and had visits by recruitment managers and colony directors. As this process was going on, we recruited members just by spreading the word to roommates, good friends, classmates, and other students from our hometowns and high schools. As a group, we became dedicated to a brotherhood defined by Fellowship, Leadership, Scholarship, and Service. By the time our official kickoff weekend took place at the end of last April, the new Alpha-Delta colony had over sixty members.

As we broke for summer, we split-up responsibilities to work on our checklist of items we needed to complete to become a chapter. We accomplished a great deal and performed many hours of community service in our local communities and cities. When we came back, we continued to meet with our alumni advisor and district grand master and are currently learning the history of Kappa Sigma and the nuances of being a Kappa Sig. Our recruitment continued and we now have over 75 members.

We have been so fortunate to meet many of you at the football games, the Kappa Sigma tailgate, and other events. You, the alumni, have been instrumental in our growth as a colony and will be very influential as we soon look to become a chapter. On behalf of the rest of the Alpha-Delta colony, I want to thank you for all your support, as it gives us a great deal of confidence in moving forward. We look forward to continuing the Alpha Delta legacy at Penn State. The members of this colony are committed to making Kappa Sigma the greatest fraternity on Penn State’s campus!
