Photo Flashback: Spring Fling ’74

Where were you in 1974?

By the looks of this photo, most of you were enjoying a beautiful day in Happy Valley during Spring Fling!

Wings’ Band On The Run and Bob Dylan’s Planet Waves were among the hot vinyl records spinning on the Penn State campus, gas was less than 55 cents per gallon and President Richard Nixon and his administration were feeling the full effects of the Watergate scandal by the time our Spring Fling event rolled around that year.

The Rolling Stones were putting the finishing touches on It’s Only Rock And Roll as many of us in Kappa Sigma were finishing up at Penn State.

And although Nixon would resign later that summer and gas has skyrocketed since that spring, plenty of us who grew through our experiences in Kappa Sigma have thrived since then. Many from that area – like the albums Band On The Run and Planet Waves – have endured and continue to carry the Kappa Sigma flag with pride.

Sure, the Stones have released 15 studio albums since their 1974 effort but like It’s Only Rock And Roll – and unlike Nixon – we have a long shelf life!
